About the book:
This story involves one of the lesser heralded parts of the Vietnam War, the American Advisors who worked directly with the Vietnamese to improve their abilities to operations as we departed Vietnam under President Nixon’s Vietnamization plan
First Lieutenant Paul Tyler, a twenty-one-year-old, military intelligence officer, serving at the small district at Ap Bing extends his year-long tour in Vietnam for an additional six-months. He is reassigned from his District team in the Mekong Delta and ordered to the Provincial Capital at Kien Song Province to assume the position as the Senior Intelligence Advisor to the Military Assistance Command - Vietnam's Team 85. He inherits a disjointed intelligence effort and works to develop a cooperative and effective intelligence team along the Cambodian border with his Vietnamese allies.
Tyler goes to Saigon monthly to brief General Creighton Abrams, the Commanding General of the MACV, on the province's intelligence situation. During his stays in Saigon our young lieutenant is befriended by Martha Greene, a Red Cross worker in Saigon, who arranges for him to stay in her Batchelor Officers Quarters during his trips to the city. Martha arranges dates for Paul with some of the eligible women that she knows, and a romantic relationship develops.
His efforts back at his Province capital of Moc Loi result in a significant improvement in the intelligence effort and ultimately results in the North Vietnamese commander for the area placing a Five million piaster price on his head – dead-or-alive!
Will Tyler survive this serious threat and will his relationship in Saigon flourish?
