Murder! At the Masquerade (Adults)

Join us for Murder! At the Masquerade, a murder mystery game by Bearded Rat Mysteries. Registration required. Choose your character, wear your costume, and play out your role to figure out the killer. It could be you! This event is open to adults.
Our annual Murder Mystery Night returns! When you register, you will be taken to a third-party sign-up sheet, where you will get to choose your character. There are three categories of characters:
- Essential Characters: These are the main characters. They have the most lines, clues, and stake in the story. Without them, the game cannot play. If you are comfortable being in the spotlight, we highly recommend choosing from this list first.
- Secondary Character: These characters are recommended. They are still involved in the story and have a decent amount of lines, clues, and unique connections to other characters.
- Optional Characters: If you are shy or want to watch more than play the game, we recommend these characters. These characters still have lines and clues, but they are mostly spectators.
Murder! At the Masquerade is divided into 4 rounds. During rounds 1, 2, and 3, each player will reveal the clues given to them in their handbook. During round 4, each player will guess who they think killed the victim. Once every player has guessed, the host will ask the the players to read their confessions. Prizes will be awarded to Best Improviser, Winner of the Ultimate Prize, Best Dastardly Plan, Best Costume, Best Accusation, and Best Character Quirks.
Costumes are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED! Because we are at a masquerade, a mask is always a good idea.

About the Game:
Murder! At the Masquerade was created by Bearded Rat Mysteries, LLC.
You receive an invitation to a masquerade ball. It appears out of nowhere, like magic. The host is unknown, but the location is enticing: an old castle off the coast, built on a small island, accessible only by boat. On the invitation is a challenge, written in gold ink to attract the eye, All guests will compete for the ultimate prize. The catch? You cannot reveal your true identity. You cannot refuse.
A storm brews as you board the boat. You arrive at the castle and still, the host is not revealed. The storm grows, and lightning strikes; soon you hear a scream – a body is found on the rocks, pushed from the ballroom balcony. A woman is dead. But who was she? As you discuss the deadly dance with your fellow guests, you will ask these questions:
- Who is the host?
- Why did the host throw a masquerade ball?
- Why were you invited?
- What is the ultimate prize?
- Who are your fellow guests?
By solving these riddles, you may catch the murderer. And maybe if you catch the murderer, you will leave the island alive. Maybe.
Bridgeport Public Library
The Bridgeport Public Library is located in Bridgeport, WV. The City of Bridgeport began providing financial support for the library in the mid-1970s. The library was then located on the top floor of the Benedum Civic Center on Main Street. In 1994 the citizens and businesses of Bridgeport raised over 1.3 million dollars to purchase and renovate the Allstate Insurance building on Johnson Avenue. It then became the Bridgeport Public Library. The library offers a variety of services and resources including books, eBooks, audiobooks, movies, music, magazines, online databases, and more!
